How does growing up in a digital world shape young people’s wellbeing, relationships, and sense of self? As social media and influencer cultures become ever more embedded in everyday life, understanding their impact has never been more important.
That is why we are delighted to invite researchers, educators, practitioners, policymakers, youth workers, community organisations, and young people themselves to join us for Digital Influences: Wellbeing and the Digital Lives of Young People, taking place on 15-16 September 2026 in Durham.

The rationale behind the event:
Young people today navigate a complex digital landscape filled with opportunities for learning, creativity, connection, and self-expression. At the same time, they face challenges linked to social validation, online toxicity, misinformation, and mental health and wellbeing. This two-day event will bring together diverse perspectives to explore both the opportunities and risks of growing up online, creating a space for meaningful dialogue and collaborative action.
What to expect:
Participants will have the opportunity to engage with a rich programme of discussions, workshops, and collaborative activities, including:
- Presentation of findings from our Digital Influencing, Wellbeing and Toxic Masculinity Project.
- A youth-led panel sharing authentic experiences of life online.
- Discussions focused on health content creators, social media regulation, extreme influencing, and more
- Co-design sessions to develop practical recommendations for schools, families, technology companies, and policymakers.
- Networking opportunities with researchers, professionals, and community organisations.
Participants will be among the first to explore the new Digital Wellbeing Workshops Booklet, which offers practical ideas and approaches to support positive digital experiences and healthier online lives for young people.
Who should attend?
Whether you work in education, youth services, research, policy, technology, mental health, or community engagement, this event offers invaluable insights and opportunities to contribute to meaningful change.
