How to use the books:
We propose that the books are used as part of a shared reading experience – amongst young people and/or between young people and adults – so that the text, as well as the illustrations that accompany it can be considered, debated and processed together.
The books aim to bringing into focus vocabulary associated with social media practices is another strategy to prompt thinking and debate in this area, and to give young people a language through which they can meaningfully articulate their views and contribute to development of a shared understanding. We recommend this vocabulary is explored with the children. The books also have embedded small, but meaningful activities, such as thinking about the process of developing strong passwords or prompting children to reflect about the digital traces their online participation creates.
